In addition to being a certified Life Care Planner, Dr. Contreras is a Physician specializing in Internal Medicine currently practicing as a Hospitalist and Primary Care Physician in Southern California.

He grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, and stayed close to home earning his Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California. A little further away, he went to Washington D.C., to attend The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, for his Medical School Education. As promised to family and friends, he came back home to complete his specialty training in Internal Medicine/Hospitalist Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at USC.

After his specialty training he has held positions at community clinics helping medically underserved communities, has helped our Military Veterans by caring for them as a hospitalist at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and he helped grow an Independent Practice Association from 100,000 patients to almost 500,000 in a span of 4 years. He continues to learn and expand his scope by attending and graduating from the University of California at San Francisco Physician Leadership fellowship program, the Harvard School of Public Health Clinic Management Program, and the Life Care Planning education program.  

Dr. Contreras is currently the Regional Medical Director for Borrego Health, California’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of the California Life Care Planning Association.

Outside of Life Care Planning & Medicine Dr. Contreras has a special interest in the Special Needs Community. He started a company that makes educational toys to help children with disabilities and to help educate typical children about the challenges their disabled peers share.
